Advanced Alkaline Electrolyser (AAE) technology development

Hydrox Holding’s latest development is its Advanced Alkaline Electrolysis (AAE) solution which has been demonstrated with a fully integrated Balance of Plant, with production capacities noted as small scale.

The technology currently sits within the validation stage falling within TRL level 5 (SHELL). Hydrox Holding’s current efforts and near-term strategy (within the first 3 quarters of 2021), in partnership with large local sugar producers, is to move the technology to TRL level 7 with a forecourt electrolyser stack demonstration with hydrogen offtake into an industrial processing plant.

Hydrox Holdings plans to successfully demonstrate it AAE solution through long term operation (1 – 2 years) projects. The company plans to use these projects as a commercial base by tailoring solutions for mining/metallurgical and engineering houses, sugar producers, platinum producers, IPP’s  etc., to achieve the objective of installing and operating a large number of scaled “green” hydrogen production units within the next 3 to 5 years.

This is significant as it will establish Hydrox Holdings as the first OEM of liquid alkaline electrolysers in Africa with the ability to provide “GREEN” electrolytic hydrogen solutions and fully exploit the fast-growing hydrogen economy. The initial goal is to develop a market-ready solution by the year 2023.
